Northern Health is a regional health authority providing healthcare services across northern British Columbia, with a focus on improving the health and well-being of residents in rural, remote, and First Nations communities. They offer a wide range of medical services, including emergency care, inpatient care, long-term care, and other specialized healthcare programs.
The Stuart Lake Hospital Replacement Project was initiated to address the growing healthcare needs of the Fort St. James community and surrounding areas. The new 20,669 ft² / 6,300 m² hospital, located on the same site as the existing hospital, is over three times the size of the previous facility. It provided Northern Health with the additional space needed to modernize and expand their healthcare service offerings, with 27 beds, including 9 inpatient acute care beds, 18 long-term care beds, emergency care, medical imaging, laboratory services and a Primary Care Clinic.
HCR provided a variety of transition services in support of the project, including Building and Staff Readiness Planning, Asset Transfer Planning, Physical Relocation of Assets, Patient Transfer Planning, Patient Transfer Coordination, Inventory, Installation of Owner-Purchased/Owner-Installed Items, and Asset Consolidation. HCR spent two years working closely alongside Northern Health and facility staff to plan the transition to ensure that all assets, services and patients were transferred safely and efficiently, minimizing downtime during the relocation, and that the building and staff were prepared to begin operations immediately after the relocation.
