Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada

688,890 ft² | 64,000 m² | 243 beds

Alberta Health Services, which is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, is the single health authority for the Canadian province of Alberta and the largest integrated provincial health care system in Canada.

The $850 million Grande Prairie Regional Hospital project saw the construction of a brand-new 688,890 ft², 243-bed facility to reduce wait times and expand services in the area, all of which were previously being provided at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital. The new state-of-the-art Grande Prairie Regional Hospital provides surgery, cancer care, critical care and emergency services.

HCR was retained to provide Asset Move Planning and Physical Relocation services for the project. HCR spent a year planning for the move, including having weekly meetings with the hospital and project staff. Using the information gathered during the planning process, HCR developed detailed move plans and schedules for the relocation of all existing equipment, furniture, staff contents, IT assets, beds, and other contents that were moving into the new facility from various departments including all operating rooms, the lab (which involved the relocation of centrifuges, microscopes and other sensitive lab equipment) and the pharmacy. The new facility was located approximately four kilometers away from the existing hospital.

HCR successfully executed those plans and completed the safe relocation of all assets over fifteen days between November and December 2021.
