Mackenzie Health is a dynamic regional healthcare provider serving a population of more than a half million people across York Region and the surrounding area.

The Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital expansion was a $1.6 billion project that saw the construction of a second hospital for the Mackenzie Health System. In addition to the services provided at the existing Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, the new 1,200,000 ft² / 111,485 m², 350-bed Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital offers specialized programs for Woman and Child Health, Inpatient Mental Health and Inpatient Stroke, along with core services such as surgery, medicine, critical care and a full-service Emergency Department.

HCR was selected to provide Move Planning, Physical Relocation of Assets, Patient Move Planning and Patient Move Coordination services for the project.

As the project reached completion, COVID-19 struck, following which the hospital was repositioned as a dedicated COVID-19 patient facility. HCR switched gears with the hospital, planning and executing an interim move of COVID-19 patients to the new facility. Once hospitalizations from COVID-19 declined, the originally planned relocations were completed over three consecutive days in June of 2021. During the first two days of the move, HCR relocated all furniture, medical equipment, staff contents and other assets from three existing Mackenzie Health locations: the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, Upper Thornhill Centre Site and Mackenzie Health Reactivation Care Centre, into the new Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. The move concluded on the third day with HCR coordinating the safe transfer of patients from the Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital into the new building.
