Crown Point, Indiana, USA

600,000 ft² / 55,741 m² / 199 beds

Franciscan Health System is a Roman Catholic faith-based not-for-profit healthcare system that operates 14 hospitals in Indiana and Illinois, serving a geographic area with a population of 3.7 million people.

Franciscan Health’s $200 million Crown Point Hospital Project involved the construction of a new 600,000 ft² / 55,741 m² / 199-bed hospital with an attached medical office building, to replace the existing 192-bed Franciscan Health Hospital (formerly St. Anthony), that was built in 1974.

Construction began in September 2020 and HCR became involved shortly after, while working in partnership with Franciscan Health’s furniture, fixtures, and equipment planner, Office Interiors. HCR staff performed a detailed inventory of thousands of pieces of existing furniture at the legacy site over a one-week period in January 2021, and using that information, developed a detailed report that was utilized by both Office Interiors and Franciscan Health to assist them in planning for the outfitting of the new facility.

In March 2023, HCR began working in cooperation with CBRE Healthcare, who provided Activation Planning services for the project, to provide Facility Activation and Patient Transfer Planning services in preparation for the transition into the new facility. In addition, HCR was contracted separately by Franciscan Health System to provide relocation services for all re-use assets.

Once ready for occupancy in late January 2024, HCR executed the physical relocation of all medical equipment, furniture, and contents from the existing hospital to the new facility. This work was completed over two weeks, with the patient transfer taking place on the final day of the move, seeing a total of 125 patients safely transferred into the new facility, marking the official opening of the new Franciscan Crown Point Hospital.
