609,075 ft² | 56,585 m² | 243 Beds

Herlev Hospital is an emergency hospital in the Capital Region of Denmark that operates in collaboration with general practitioners, specialists and the municipalities in the area.

The Herlev Hospital redevelopment project involved the expansion and redevelopment of the existing hospital in order to expand its service offerings and become designated as one of the major emergency hospitals in the region. The 609,075 ft² / 56,585 m² attached expansion is connected to the existing hospital’s main entrance and includes a new emergency department, bed section and child reception areas.

HCR’s involvement in the project began with a Relocation Review in 2017 and was followed by four years of detailed Facility Activation, Patient and Asset Transfer Planning.

The Phase 1 relocation plans were executed over nine consecutive days in June of 2021. HCR provided on-site management services to coordinate and oversee the move to ensure a seamless relocation of the Emergency Department, Department of Children and Adolescents, Department of Gastrointestinal, Liver and Liver Diseases and the Department of Medical Diseases. The patient move was completed on the final day of the move, with 83 patients safely transferred into the new facility.

HCR also planned and managed the Phase 2 relocation, which saw maternity wards, neonatal, intensive care and operating rooms open. HCR developed a detailed patient transfer plan and worked closely in cooperation with the facility to coordinate the safe transfer of 61 patients over 2.5 hours. This included 8 intensive care patients, 6 gynecology patients, 35 maternity patients and 12 neonatal babies. This phase was successfully completed in September 2022, marking the end to this nearly five-year project.
