Glasgow, Scotland to Montreal, Quebec, Canada

The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) in Montreal is the largest and most comprehensive medical and life sciences research facility of its kind in Canada, and home to some of the world’s foremost medical scientists.

The Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences (ICAMS) at the University of Glasgow is a Research Institute that focusses on cardiac, vascular and metabolic diseases, and hosts world-leading clinical scientists in these areas.

HCR provided Move Planning & Physical Relocation services for frozen laboratory samples/medications, slides, paraffin blocs and lab equipment that were moved from the University of Glasgow Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences in Glasgow, Scotland, to The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Prior to the relocation, HCR performed a site tour of the Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences in Glasgow to validate the locations and contents to be packed, and to determine appropriate access and egress routes for the move. HCR also met with all appropriate lab personnel to confirm their attendance and supervision during the move day packing process.

HCR sourced all packing materials (incl insulated shipping containers, cold gel-packs and dry-ice) locally in the UK and arranged for “just in time” delivery to the site.

When ready to be relocated, HCR staff carefully packed all contents and properly labeled all containers in compliance with IATA (International Air Transport Association) regulations. To ensure the safe handling of these time and temperature sensitive materials, HCR arranged for the pick-up of all packed materials for expedited delivery to London Heathrow airport for shipping and coordinated with the airlines and trucking companies in both the UK and in Canada to ensure the shortest possible duration for delivery.

Once the shipment had safely arrived in Canada and cleared customs, HCR provided experienced staff at the RI-MUHC to receive the shipment, unpack and place these items into their designated spaces, including -80c, -20c freezers, LN2 tanks, +4c fridges and dry storage areas.
