St. Louis University Hospital is a certified Level I Trauma Center providing tertiary-quaternary healthcare, including an organ transplant program.
Through a collaboration between SSM Health, Saint Louis University and SLUCare Physicians, the $550 million St. Louis University Hospital Medical Campus Renewal Project saw the construction of a new Hospital and Ambulatory Care Center on the north side of the existing hospital campus. The new hospital replaced the existing Saint Louis University Hospital with all-private patient rooms, larger intensive care units, an expanded emergency department and dedicated educational space throughout the facility. The new Ambulatory Care Center consolidated outpatient diagnostic, clinical, and patient treatment services.
HCR was selected in separate RFP processes to provide both Move Planning and Relocation Services for the project. HCR took on a leadership role for the entire move process and spent several months planning for the relocation of both assets and patients. Meetings were held with each hospital care unit to develop customized move plans and schedules. HCR also lead training sessions and organized mock move exercises in advance of the move to prepare all 2,000 staff for the relocation.
Once ready for occupancy, HCR staff performed the physical relocation of all furnishings, materials, inventory, medical equipment, IT equipment and supplies that were moved from the existing hospital, Doctor’s Office Building, and the South Campus into both new facilities. These moves were completed over a 2-week period in late August 2020. On the final day of the move, HCR coordinated the safe transfer of more than 250 patients (with a very high proportion being critical care) that were moved into the new hospital through a ground floor corridor and a custom built, fully covered walkway connected between the legacy site and new building.
