Marquette, Michigan, USA
The new $340 million UP Health System – Marquette campus on West Baraga Avenue was constructed to replace the aging West College Avenue facility. This new campus consists of a 536,000 ft² hospital and a 97,000 ft² Clinical Services Building, offering the community easy access to enhanced healthcare services in one convenient location.
HCR was selected to provide on-site warehousing management and installation services for new FF&E purchases, as well as comprehensive move planning and physical relocation services for designated reuse furnishings, equipment, materials, inventory, supplies and staff contents moving from three existing facilities approximately 1.5 miles away into the two new buildings at the Marquette Campus.
Utilizing the eighth-floor shell space in the new hospital, HCR assisted in the receiving, inventory tracking, unpacking and assembly of new hospital-purchased furniture and equipment. Once the building was ready, HCR performed the installation, distribution and placement of hundreds of new items required to outfit both the new Hospital and the Clinical Services Building.
Following the completion of the installations, there were delays in occupancy approvals that caused the move schedule to change less than one week prior to the original date the move was set to begin. HCR adapted to overcome these last-minute changes, modifying the move plan and compressing the move schedule to accommodate the desired revised move date.
Once the approval for occupancy was granted, HCR performed the physical relocation of all assets relocating from the three existing facilities: The Main Hospital, The Upper Peninsula Medical Center and The Northern Michigan University. These relocations were completed over two consecutive weeks. HCR also worked in cooperation with HTS Inc. to assist with the patient relocation, which saw a total of 75 patients safely moved to the new campus on patient-move day.
