Nova Scotia Health is the largest provider of health services in Nova Scotia, with over 24,000 employees providing quality healthcare and support services at numerous Hospitals, Health Centre’s, and Community-Based programs across the province.

In the summer of 2021, Nova Scotia Health began construction on a new single-story, 17,375 ft² replacement facility for their existing and aging North Cumberland Memorial Hospital, which was built in 1966 to serve the communities of Pugwash, Wallace, Malagash, Port Howe and other surrounding areas.

Situated between the existing North Cumberland Memorial Hospital and the East Cumberland Lodge Long-Term Care Home, the new North Cumberland Health Care Centre allowed Nova Scotia Health to consolidated services that were previously split between the North Cumberland Memorial Hospital and the adjacent detached North Cumberland Primary Healthcare Clinic. With a shared reception area in the new facility, doctor and nurse practitioner offices are now directly connected to acute care services under the same roof, allowing for more efficient and coordinated care to better meet the needs of patients for years to come.

HCR was selected to provide Staff and Asset Transfer Planning, Physical Relocation of Assets, Patient Transfer Planning & Patient Transfer Coordination services for the project. HCR’s planning work began in November of 2022, and continued throughout the project, leading up until the move, which was completed over three consecutive days in early June of 2024, with the patient transfer taking place on the final day, marking the official opening of the new North Cumberland Health Care Centre.
