The Western Zone of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services operates hundreds of acute care beds, long term care beds, enhanced assisted living beds and restorative care beds across various Hospitals, Health Centre’s, Medical Clinics and Community Based Offices throughout the Western regions of Newfoundland, providing a broad range of programs and services to nearly 80,000 residents.
In 2019, Western Health began construction of a new $750 million regional acute-care hospital, to replace the existing 450,000 ft², 175-bed Western Memorial Hospital, which opened in 1951. The new 7-story, 600,000 ft², 164-bed facility, by the same name, was built as an attached addition to the recently constructed Western Long-Term-Care Home, located approx. 5km away from the old hospital. The new Western Memorial Regional Hospital offers all the same acute care services previously provided at the old hospital, as well as expanded state-of-the-art cancer care and radiation services.
HCR was selected to provide a wide range of transition services in support of the project, including Operational Readiness Planning, Facility Activation Planning, Asset Inventory, Installation of Owner Purchased / Owner Installed Items, IT Roll-Out, Asset Transfer Planning, Physical Relocation of Assets, Patient Transfer Planning, Patient Transfer Coordination and Asset Consolidation Planning.
