Sunny Hill Health Centre is an academic health facility affiliated with the University of British Columbia, the Centre for Community Child Health Research and BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Phase 3 of the BC Women’s & Children’s Hospital Redevelopment saw a portion of the existing hospital building repurposed to accommodate the relocation of the existing Sunny Hill Health Centre to the main Oak Street campus. Previously, patients were transferred between Sunny Hill and BC Children’s for access to care, such as surgery, radiology procedures, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinic follow-up. This relocation eliminated inefficiencies for patients, families, and health care professionals, allowing for enhanced collaboration and coordination with other BC Children’s services to provide more integrated care for patients.

HCR provided Asset & Patient Relocation Services for the move into the Teck Acute Care Centre during Phase 2 of the redevelopment project in 2017 through contracts with both the hospital and Project Co., and was retained again by the hospital to provide these services for the third and final phase.

HCR developed detailed patient and asset move plans and executed the safe relocation of all acute rehab patients and assets moving from the existing Sunny Hill Health Centre to the Oak Street Campus, located 8 kilometers away. This work was completed over a one-week period in late August of 2020.
