Michigan City, Indiana, USA
440,000 ft² | 40,880 m² | 123 Beds
Franciscan Health operates a network of healthcare facilities across Indiana, Illinois and Michigan.
In early 2019, Franciscan opened a $243 Million replacement hospital in Michigan City, Indiana, marking one of the largest health-care investments in the Region to date. Constructed to replace the existing 114-year old Homer Street Hospital, this new 440,000 ft² state-of-the-art facility houses 123 private inpatient beds, robust outpatient services and the most advanced, life-saving innovations and patient amenities.
HCR was selected to provide Move Planning and Relocation services for both assets and patients relocating from the existing facility into the new hospital. Notwithstanding an abridged planning period, HCR was able to create a detailed move plan and schedule that provided for the logical and efficient transfer to the new facility. HCR then flawlessly executed the schedule without any gap in patient care or service.
Over just 12 days, all services, furniture, medical equipment, non-medical equipment, contents and staff were transferred to the new hospital from the downtown Homer Street facility. The relocation concluded with the patient move, which, with the assistance of crews from Superior Ambulance and the Michigan City and La Porte County Police Units, saw 56 patients safely relocated into the new Hospital over just four hours.
Following the move, HCR consolidated redundant assets in the old facility, grouping them together by like item, preparing an inventory and assessing their condition.
