Denmark’s West Jutland Region embarked on a massive fifteen-year project, spanning from 2007 to 2022 that saw the construction of the new state-of-the-art Gødstrup Regional Hospital. This new 148,000 m² / 1,593,058 ft² facility replaced two nearby hospitals, Regional Hospital Herning (approximately 10 km away) and Regional Hospital Holstebro (approximately 30 km away). This project also included a new 13,000 m² / 139,930 ft² Psychiatric Hospital to consolidate psychiatry services that were previously split between Herning and Holstebro, and a new facility for the newly established research and education unit called NIDO.

After successfully completing the relocation of numerous other hospitals in Denmark, HCR was selected to provide Relocation Management for the project, including Operational Readiness Review, Facility Activation Planning and Execution Assistance, Risk Management Assistance, Asset Relocation Planning, Specialty Vendor Coordination Services, Physical Relocation Management, Patient Transfer Planning and Patient Transfer Coordination services.

HCR spent four years working closely alongside the Gødstrup Hospital project team to prepare for this complicated and complex relocation. In addition to moving numerous legacy sites, there were numerous other contributors that made this move much more complicated, including project delays, moving during the on-going COVID-19 Pandemic and the need to keep acute care at full capacity for the entire duration of the moves. HCR adapted to overcome all of these hurdles and executed a seamless relocation of both hospitals over two separate move phases in early 2022.

Phase 1 of the relocation saw the relocation of the 81,500 m² / 877,258 ft² hospital in Holstebro. This move was completed over 12 moving days between January and February 2022. The patient transfer was completed on the final day of the move and saw 45 patients safely relocated over 3.5 hours.

HCR returned to Denmark in March of 2022 to complete Phase 2 of the relocation, which saw the 97,700 m² / 1,051,634 ft² hospital in Herning moved over 12 days. The patient transfer was completed on the final day of the move and saw 36 somatic patients safely relocated over 2.5 hours, along with 45 psychiatric patients relocated over 4.5 hours.
